Insurance companies licensed to write auto liability coverage in Missouri will soon need to register with the state’s new uninsured motorist program.
The Missouri Insurance Verification System (MOIVS) will include real-time insurance verification, ongoing compliance monitoring, and a pre-trial diversion program. The program was developed after lawmakers in 2023 passed a bill ordering the Department of Revenue to establish an online platform to verify that vehicle owners comply with state financial responsibility laws.
Missouri Insurance Commissioner Angela Nelson said in a bulletin issued to insurers that companies are required to register with MOIVS by October 15.
Insurance companies must continue reporting coverage information to DOR using their existing reporting processes until MOIVS is fully operational, the bulletin said.
